Elizabeth and Emmeline.

1 Feb 2022

Elizabeth’s likeness emerges from the clay and the statue has been granted Planning Permission! Thank you so much to all those who wrote in support. There was overwhelming public engagement with more than 50 letters to the planning officer. Roll on 8th March 2022 when the unveiling is to take place. It was the suffrage movement leader, Emmeline Pankhurst who dubbed Elizabeth Elmy as "the brains of the Suffrage movement" and now they have both had their likeness made by Hazel Reeves.

Hazel won the PSSA Marsh Award for Excellence in Public Sculpture for her Emmeline Pankhurst statue in Manchester. She said 'I have to keep pinching myself. A real career highlight. I still can't quite believe it. It was a labour of love and a real team effort. I couldn't have done it on my own."
