vital statistics

Jeremy Corbyn said: “The overriding bias of statues and memorials towards men in our country is shocking. It is time to redress the balance and honour the millions of women who have transformed Britain for the better”.

Bethan Mckernon gave these statistics: “There are 640 listed statues around the UK, celebrating people, events or animals. But of the 573 human shaped ones, only around 15 per cent are women - and around half of those are of royals or characters from ancient mythology.”

Are you old enough to remember when ‘vital statistics’ meant measurements of your body? Well here are today’s truly vital statistics; upload the numbers and your photos of women and men in civic statues that you see. This will build a national database to make the inequality irrefutably clear.

From the data gathered so far it seems that men outnumber women by a factor of up to 16 to 1 and if you took Queen Victoria out of the equation the figures would be seriously worse.
